Article Manager

 Joomla's Article Manager

Joomla Article Manager is one of Joomla's most used managers.
The Article Manager works like most of Joomla's UI.
But has a ton of small features and the more you dig into an article.
These features become settings are become available.
Articles in Joomla have global settings, local article settings and menu settings.
Which I will discuss in the  Global Article Preferences page.

Toolbar

Page Grid

In the cutouts above you will see two parts of the article manager.
The first image is the tools bar with the icons the second is the page grid set of articles.
I'll will only go over the basics.

The three icons in the toolbar starting from the New icon to the right so Parameters and Help.
All don't need an article selected in order to work but the rest do.

You can do multiple actions on article like copy or move them or publishing them or un-publishing them etc.
By selecting the check box next to them then clicking the Icon with the action you like.

Now Joomla has another nice feature for sites with a ton of older articles you can Archive them.
The Archive feature puts the articles in a hold pattern but you can still see them in the article manager but not in the
Front -end with the sections blogs etc.

You can add a menu link to the Archive articles for users to still get them via the front-end
of your site.

So you can filter the articles by date then mass archive them if you like.
Archived articles keep there sections and category and all of there information.

In the Front Page Manager page I discuss how articles appear in the manager.

Well if you select a article or articles and look for the Front Page column. You can add or remove an article to the front page.
It turns the red circle into a green check mark and a link to the article appears in the Front Page Manager.
Articles appear in the front page if published and in that order.

Please note: That if your front page only shows two articles and the article is in the fourth place of the article order.
Then its not going to show unless the user clicks on a link to see it via the live Joomla site.
Add more articles more visible articles to the front page.
This is done via the menu layout parameters or up the order of the article in the Front Page Manager.

One of they other toolbar buttons is the Trash button which puts the article or articles selected into the
Article Trash manager.
This is a safety net in case you deleted an article by mistake you get a last chance like the Windows or Mac trash cans.
