 Article Category Manager



The category manager is a very important part to Joomla's article system its how you get your article's organized in some ways its
how you map out your web site. Just a like a supermarket has isles Joomla has sections and category's.

The Category manager works just like most part's of Joomla's UI.
With a Grid Data set page with rows and columns.
The columns are sortable by clicking on them or using the filter.

In the cutout image below is a view of the edit form it but its the same for new as well.



Title:
Category title you will see this in the article manager and Category manager.

Alias:
Title alias is used for "SEF" search engine friendly.
You can leave this blank and Joomla will fill it in or you can fill it in yourself.
It should consist of lowercase letters, and no blank spaces are allowed.
Use a hyphen (-) instead. The Alias will be used in the URL when SEF is activated.

Published:
Whether to show it the category or not.

Section:
Category's are dependent on sections so one has to be chosen.

Order:
As most of Joomla's UI you have the option of changing the order of category as it appears in the page grid set.

Access Level:
We have covered this in the Access Control List section.

Image:
Sections can be displayed with an image. Which by default are stored in Joomla_rootimagesstories* directory.
Now it only list the images that are at the root of this folder.
So if your going to use this feature.
Make sure that you make your images inside this folder.

Image Position:
Line up the images to the right or left of the category description.

The cutout below is the default editor for Joomla and works the same way.
you can add images via the Images button on the footer.

Please note: That menus control the page layout of category.
So to show a category description or the above image settings you need to make sure that menus basic parameters
are set for Description: "Show" and Description Image: "Show" to view your section.
