Yes thats true. Joomla does not support more then one site per install.
I think I once saw a third party help with this but if Joomla changes your going have to make sure that your third party vendor has upgrades.
I even thou I do a lot with Joomla there other CMS's that do this but there not easy to work in as Joomla Typo3 is very good at multi sites per one install.
But its not easy work not knocking Typo3 the system is super nice.
