Default Testing Template Kit on server.

Hi,

I just purchased the Joomla Template Kit yesterday. I have looked at the first 12 videos and decided to test what I learned so far. I am using a hosting account that I have for testing scripts and such. When mapping the site in Dreamweaver, I set the 'Local Root Folder' as 'C:\my_tempales\joomla101\'. I set the HTTP Address to 'http://www.mysite.com/joomla/templates/joomla101/'. (I use the Joomla folder because I have other test scripts on the server as well.

I created the base template files, opened the index.php and added some tables, (Header, Left column, Main body and Right column).

With the cursor in the Left column, I went into the Jmodule Menu and selected 'Left Block' and 'Table wrapper(0)'. Then I FTP'd all files into the Joomla folder on my server.

I opened my browser and pointed it to 'http://www.mysite.com/joomla/index.php' and I get a 'Error 404 Page not found'.

I re-checked and the files are there and the path is correct but I continue to get the same error.

Any thoughts on what I did wrong?

Thanks

Hello douffle,
Just got home and checked my email fast Friday for me.
Ok your mapping the setup the wrong way.

1. local files for template C:\my_tempales\joomla101\
thats fine.

2. remote setup you need to map to the templates directory of Joomla
/Joomla-install-dir/templates/
all other templates

3. you need to make the template as per videos.
then name the template with wizard as per video.

4. Design a bit of the template. and upload it /rootJoomlainstall/templates/*

5. login to your public / remote Joomla install
administrator back-end an via the template manager
assign the template you name upload via DW FTP
look for the name that you used via the wizard from step 3.

open tab to the front of your Joomla site and you will see your
template!

That it your all set.
Cheers,
I had a long day so I'm signing off for today
enjoy and have fun

Brian

Unforunately I am still having problems with this. Dreamweaver seems to be mapped ok now but I can't get going on a template.

Below is what I have done.

1) Opend the wizard and selected Create Base Template Files. Gave the project the name joomla101.

2) Set up the Profile.

3) Selected Update the templates Detail XML file and filled it out.

4) Opened the index.php file in Dreamweaver and added a table and typed the word 'Header' into the table.

Then I uploaded all of the files to my server.

I then went into the Joomla Admin and set the joomla101 template as the default.
When I browse to my Joomla site I get the following error:

Direct Access to this location is not allowed.

Obviously I need some help here, a short tutorial (other than the videos which I have looked at.)

Thanks.

Hello douffle

It sounds like your using Joomla 1.5 and your have an issue because
the system is not set to legacy mode.

JTK 2.1 only officially supports Joomla 1.0.X branch.
It will work with Joomla 1.5 in legacy mode with is set via module Manager.

The Joomla Template Kit 3.0 will have full support for Joomla 1.5
With will be out this month.

OK, that seemed to do it. It was really frustrating me. ( Legacy mode is set in the Plugin Manager). Thanks for you help and I am looking forward to Template Kit 3.0. Do you notify your customers by email when the new version is released?
