Clicking news story doesn't open new template?

I bought the Joomla Template Extension and am very happy with it. I've starting building a test page at Fairman's Test - Home . I've figured out how to build two different templates; one for the front page and one for all of the content. However, when you click the "read more" link in a front page news story, it doesn't open up the news story in the content template. For example, on the front page right now if you click "read more" under the "Skate Jam" story you'll see if opens the story in the front page template. But if you click the "Skate Jam" link in the Frontpage Slide show module, it opens the story in the content template. Any ideas?

Not to get into a long explanation you need to assign template to the menu item. If you have a section that you like a template show you need to
have a menu link to it plus assign the template to the menu link.

articles are assign to a section then a Category make sure you link to it.
So you have a choice to assign it a template via the template manager.

Thanks for the response. I've tried everything I could think of, and clicking the "Read More" link below a news story on the front page still brings up the story in the front page template. I've made the content template (my only other template) the default template, and assigned the front page template to just the "Home" section. No luck.

I don't have to time play with it right now but.

There is a way I think to have it go to the section.
try looking into the Params settings global and per article.

Also in the menu link for Home / Front page there are params that can be set
like links a the top of the article.

or you can hack the front page com to link to another com to display article.

I've tried all of the things you listed; no luck. I found reference to this issue on a Mambo message board. Apparently there is a way to modify the com_content>content.html.php file and fix the issue. My understanding is that this file assigns the front page's category ID to the news item listed on the front page. Someone suggested adding a line of code underneath this function that re-assigns the news item's original category ID. However, the code they suggested didn't work, and I assume its because it is set up for Mambo. Any suggestions on what code would work for Joomla?

Thanks for the suggestions. It turns out that the behavior I am observing is in fact a function of how Joomla assigns different itemIDs for articles in the front page than it does in their content areas. I found a Joomla forum article where one of the programmers describes a work-around for this issues. You can find that article at Joomla! Thanks for the info I took a quick read at the Joomla forums.
I'm loaded to the gills with work so I can't give it the time needed
at this time but yes your on to something.

from what I can see its just how the ID is past.
sort of what I mentioned earlier in the first post.

if your going to hack it a bit you may have to in some cases.
use a Diff app "winmerge.org <--- free" when you upgrade Araxis: Project Management & File/Folder Comparison <-- not bad app. there other issues with this bug
in SEO links but It's not that bad.
