What is going on with the Joomla Template System?

We had the JTK extension for Joomla 1.5 with the Pat template system made and ready.

Then about 4 days ago the Joomla Dev Team out of nowhere made a change to the template
system that now does no use the Pat Template system. And uses a new style of Php code to make templates. We can make the extension fairly quickly but the help files and the debugging are going to take time.

Over the weekend I'm going to see what other changes have been made to the Joomla Template System and make an alpha extension for this new template system.

As for a time frame I can't tell you because I have to wait on the final say from the Joomla Dev Team on a
final commitment to this new template system.
